Tightening Rainlamp Lines
The lines that run from top to bottom are made from fishing line. The can become stretched out after installing a new bulb.
To tighten these lines you will need the following:
- a cotton swab (Q-Tip)
- nail polish remover (weak acetone)
- Tweezers or small needle nose pliers
The lines are paired in twos. This meaning that one line goes goes between two of the holes and is knotted at the base. Original lamps had one continuous line which is hard to tension. My updated design means that if one line is loose it will only effect the one next to it rather than potentially the entire lamp.
To begin remove the lamp top and unplug the yellow plug (on table models). The top can now be separated from the lamp so it is out of the way. On hanging lamps the top is loosened by removing the to hanging ring. Take care that the chain does not scratch the finish. This might be easier with two people. You will notice 29-33 (model dependent) eyelets which the fishing line run through. To tighten a line the inner eyelet must first be removed. To prevent line movement I have placed a drop of super glue on each grommet and in the knot at the base of the lamp.

Using a Q-Tip of cotton swap apply a small amount of nail polish remover (weak acetone) to the inner grommets you intend to remove. Wipe any spills on paint immediately so no harm is done. Let it work on the glue for a few moments. Now using your finger nails or tweezers, or similar tool, pull the grommet.

Now pull up gently on the loop of fishing line till you reach the desired tension. While holding the line tight replace the inner grommets. Push these in carefully to retain the tension on the lines. The blunt end of a pen or pencil might help seat the grommet better than ones fingers.

Plug in the yellow plug (only goes one way so rotate 180 degrees if it will not plug). Now replace the lamp top.
