Thank you for your purchase!
Here are some instructions for setting up your lamp:
Carefully unpack your rain lamp. There will be some oil reside left from testing as it is hard to drain every last bit out without complete disassembly.
Add the 3 supplied bottles of oil to the base and plug in. Oil capacity: 48oz (3 bottles 16oz bottles) A nozzle has been provided to help in filling. Make sure it is tight before tipping bottle to fill lamp. Otherwise you will have a mess. Squeezing the bottle helps but be careful not to fill too quick or it can over flow. Oil weeping at the lower screw holes is not uncommon during filling. Wipe away any oil with a soft paper towel or cloth.
If more oil is needed, due to a spill, use Walmart Equate brand mineral oil or Target stores brand as a second choice. Both of these have the best viscosity for visually appealing rain. Other brands we have tried are much thinner and rain drop size suffers.
It may take as long as 15 min for the rain to begin as the pump is being primed. Until primed the pump will be little noisy. Once primed the noise will subside (some pump noise will be present but very minimal). Rain will only take 1-2 min to begin falling in the future. We recommend running the lamp at least a few minutes every two weeks to keep the pump primed.
Optional: Place the plants, between the two rows of "strings" around the outer edge of the base. Try to avoid placing the plants with big leaves next to the rain "lines". The leaves (large leaf plants) can act as funnels directing oil outside the lamp making a mess. The plants may differ from those pictured on the website. Supply of these have been unpredictable.
Occasional dusting is recommended. Change oil as needed every other year or sooner if rain performance suffers. More so if conditions are dusty or pet fur present. If the lamps sits for an extended period the oil might take longer to reach the top the first time after start up. If any of the lines don't have rain drops than the feed grommet may be blocked with debris. This can be remedied by cleaning with: a bread bag tie, tooth pick, or small piece of wire.
Bulb Changing:
The lamp is supplied with a LED long life bulb. So bulb replacement should not be required for a long time.
To get to the inside of the "wires" use both hands but your only fingers preferably. You can get your hand inside if you start with the a flat palm and only close your hand once you are past the lines up to your wrist. The lines are 50lb test fishing line so they are quite strong. Just take your time and limit the amount of time you have your hands inside. Going in from the back or sides is best. This is just in case the lines get stretched slightly.
